Tinubu confirms payment of D’Tigress’ $100,000 reward

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have received the cash rewards he promised them following their success.

Tinubu made this known in a post on his X handle on Thursday, saying each player had received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while officials received $50,000 each.

“Each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official has received the equivalent of $50,000, completing their package of cash rewards, national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja,” he wrote.

The president said the payments took time because his administration had to follow the required legal and administrative processes.

“For the first time, a Federal Government has fulfilled this scale of presidential sporting rewards in full within one year. We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented. That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept,” he said.

Tinubu also said the Federal Government was completing the outstanding cash rewards promised to the Super Falcons.

According to him, members of the Super Falcons had already received documents for their house allocations and their National Honours certificates.

He added that the promise of houses and national honours made to the Super Eagles players had also been fulfilled.

Tinubu said Nigerian athletes who perform well for the country deserved more than praise.

“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word,” he stated.

He said his message to Nigerian athletes remained focused, saying, “My promise to every Nigerian Athelete is make NIGERIA proud, and come back to a grateful Nation.”

Congratulating the athletes again, he said

“Nigeria is proud of you.”
