Three Drivers Enter EchoPark Speedway as Co-Favorites, but NASCAR’s Most Unpredictable Race Rarely Follows the Odds

Drafting races have a way of making oddsmakers look smart one minute and completely wrong the next.

That’s the challenge facing sportsbooks ahead of Sunday’s Quaker State 400 at EchoPark Speedway. While betting markets have identified three clear favorites entering the weekend, history suggests almost anyone in the field could find themselves battling for the win when the checkered flag falls.

EchoPark Speedway’s pack racing produces late-race crashes, surprise contenders and dramatic finishes almost every time the NASCAR Cup Series visits the 1.54-mile oval. Still, the latest odds reveal which drivers sportsbooks believe have the strongest chance to survive the chaos.

Three drivers sit atop the board entering Atlanta

Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott each open the weekend at +900, making them co-favorites for Sunday’s race.

Reddick’s position is hardly surprising. The 23XI Racing driver won the February race at EchoPark Speedway, leading 53 laps before holding off Chase Briscoe in the closing miles. Although his past two races have ended in disappointing finishes, sportsbooks clearly believe his drafting-track success outweighs that recent slump.

Blaney’s inclusion also reflects years of consistency on superspeedways and drafting tracks. Even without a victory since the track’s reconfiguration, the Team Penske driver has repeatedly placed himself in position to contend during the final laps.

Elliott, meanwhile, returns as the defending winner of the Quaker State 400 after his dramatic last-lap victory one year ago. Racing in front of his home-state crowd again only adds to expectations surrounding the No. 9 Chevrolet.

Just behind the three co-favorites are Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Kyle Larson at +1000.

Several championship contenders remain close behind

The next tier of contenders is packed with drivers capable of winning if the race turns into a fuel-mileage battle or a late drafting sprint.

Christopher Bell and Joey Logano are both listed at +1400, while Denny Hamlin and Carson Hocevar enter at +1600.

Bell already owns an EchoPark Speedway victory since the track’s reconfiguration, while Hamlin remains one of NASCAR’s premier drafting-track racers despite more mixed results at Atlanta in recent seasons. Hocevar continues to show front-running speed nearly every week and arrives with momentum after another strong performance at Chicagoland.

Chase Briscoe and Brad Keselowski both sit at +1800, followed by Chris Buescher and Bubba Wallace at +2000.

Ross Chastain and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are each +2500, Ty Gibbs opens at +3000, and Shane van Gisbergen and Alex Bowman are both +3500.

Farther down the board, Daniel Suárez is +4000, Ryan Preece, Josh Berry and Austin Hill are each +4500, while Austin Dillon, Zane Smith, Todd Gilliland, Michael McDowell, Connor Zilisch, AJ Allmendinger and Erik Jones are all listed at +6500.

Riley Herbst carries +7500 odds. Ty Dillon, Noah Gragson and John Hunter Nemechek are each +9000, while Cole Custer and BJ McLeod open at +10000. Cody Ware and Chad Finchum are the longest shots at +20000.

If history is any indication, though, those numbers may matter only until the first multi-car accident reshuffles the running order. EchoPark Speedway has developed a reputation for producing unpredictable finishes, making Sunday’s Quaker State 400 one of the most difficult races on the Cup Series calendar for both bettors and competitors to forecast.
