“Thoroughbred” Spalletti discusses new signing after his full debut

Pape Matar Sarr made his full debut for Juventus against NEC in the Europa League in midweek, and it is safe to say his manager was impressed by what he saw from the midfielder.

Sarr joined the Bianconeri from Tottenham on loan during the last transfer window as Juventus looked to add more options to their midfield. The men at the Allianz Stadium believe they have brought in a quality player for the position and will continue working to ensure he fulfils expectations.

Sarr makes positive Juventus debut

The midfielder started the match strongly and produced an impressive display of his talent during the opening minutes. However, his influence faded as the game progressed, which is understandable for a player who has only recently returned from muscle discomfort.

Sarr needs more matches to regain his sharpness and reach his best level, and Juventus understand that. The Bianconeri will look to support his recovery and development as he adapts to his new surroundings.

Luciano Spalletti is nevertheless convinced that Juventus have signed a quality midfielder who can make an important contribution to the team.

Juventus manager praises Sarr

Speaking about the midfielder, he said via Football Italia:

“Sarr is a thoroughbred because he has quality in his running.

“He had a good game tonight, especially considering it was his first. He also responded to me a couple of times, so that’s positive. Players with these qualities can sometimes lack a bit of sharpness, but he did many things well. He was always involved with the team and close to the ball. I’m happy with his performance.”

The comments suggest that Sarr made a positive impression despite not maintaining his early level throughout the match. His manager also recognised that a lack of sharpness can be expected after returning from an injury issue.

With more playing time, Juventus will hope Sarr can regain his full fitness and continue improving. His first appearance has given the club encouragement, while his manager’s assessment indicates that there is confidence in what the midfielder can offer.
