This Manchester City side has plenty of scope to improve as their superstar striker pointed out

Erling Haaland scored a brace to help Manchester City make it two wins from two Premier League matches as Enzo Maresca’s side beat Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park last night. Haaland looked in ominous form as he put in a very good performance up front to set City on their way last night. Haaland’s performance followed on from his somewhat rusty display against Bournemouth last weekend. Haaland’s performance went up a gear now that he is beginning to work his way back to full match sharpness after a busy summer for Norway at the World Cup.

Speaking after the game, Haaland said that Manchester City, like himself, are building into the new season and there is plenty of scope for Enzo Maresca’s side to improve.

Speaking after his team beat Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park last night, Erling Haaland was quick to point out that this new-look Manchester City is still learning to playing. In an interview published on mancity.com he said: “We have to keep on playing together and find out where we are best and how to play. We have so many good players and we have to fit everyone in.”

“Phil [Foden] has to work hard as does everyone else. We have to keep going. We know how good Phil is and it’s about showing it week in, week out. It’s a right step in the right direction from everyone. Elliot [Anderson] was incredible. We have to build on this.”

“I think in the start of the season, it was barely pre-season for everyone. Rayan [Cherki] just five weeks ago was playing in the World cup, so it’s a step up and we take it game by game. We’ll be back, we just need a few games.”

Also, Erling Haaland added that there is an experienced core in the Manchester City squad. However, they are adjusting to Enzo Maresca’s system. Haaland added: “We played well and I mean it’s a new manager and all that but most of us have been playing together. We know what to do and need to trust the system and trust Enzo in what he wants us to do.”

This Manchester City side has plenty

This new-look Manchester City side is still nowhere near full match sharpness and there is plenty of scope for improvement in it.

If you’d offered Enzo Maresca’s side six points from their first two games of the Premier League season, they’d have taken it. Especially when you consider that Enzo Maresca has only had the opportunity to work with his entire squad properly for a minimal amount of time. Also, you have to factor into the equation that Manchester City still have work to do in the transfer market to further improve Enzo Maresca’s squad. Those two factors alone show where the improvement can come from for this City side.

On the pitch, Enzo Maresca’s side is still adjusting to their new manager’s system. There are clear areas of Manchester City’s play that can, and will, improve. At times, both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have cut through or bypassed Manchester City’s midfield with ease. The more that Enzo Maresca works with his team to further embed his system, this side of Manchester City’s play will improve.

Also, the City defence is learning the tweaks that Maresca has made to how they defend. Last night, the whole City defence was better, but you can see how much stronger the Manchester City defence will be when Maresca’s tweaks are mastered, so to speak.

Manchester City swept Crystal Palace aside last night to pick up a 4-1 win. It was a promising display from Enzo Maresca’s side as they made it two wins from two in the Premier League. At times, City were an irrepressible attacking force during last night’s match. However, there is plenty of scope for improvement in this City side to come. As Erling Haaland said the City players are still adjusting to Enzo Maresca’s system and a host of them are working their way to full fitness.

Those are two areas where further improvement will come from this Manchester City, and they should be an even more dangerous proposition once they fully come to grips with their new manager’s system and play together more often.
