The Denver Broncos somehow keep doing this. The team got off to another slow start on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams before launching a furious comeback to secure a 30-26 victory.
It was only 16 points, but if you watched the first half of that game, the Broncos had nothing going for them. It was all they could do to get a first down. Fortunately, the defense managed to hold the Rams to a couple of field goals, or the score would have been even worse.
Heading into the half, it looked like the game was over. Coming out to start the third quarter, Sean Payton told sideline reporter Melissa Stark that the opening drive of the third quarter would be very important for his team. The Broncos then went three-and-out and were forced to punt.
It looked like things were about to get worse. Taking a look at these two statistics, it would have been smart money to put a heavy wager on the Rams to come out victorious.
L.A. had won 33 straight games when leading by 15 or more points at halftime, and the Broncos were 5-95-1 when trailing by at least 15 points at halftime. That changed on Sunday night.

The Broncos were considered by many to be much luckier than good last season, while winning 11 one-score games (games decided by 8 points or less). It was generally thought that was a trend the team wouldn’t be able to continue.

However, in each of the last two weeks, the Broncos have won one-score games. While they have a way of keeping their fans on the edge of their seats, the Broncos have become incredibly good at executing in tough situations and these kinds of victories will only help the team as the season progresses.
The Broncos have become the NFL’s very definition of battle-tested.
