There is one glaring hole in the current Manchester City squad. Enzo Maresca’s squad does lack up another striker to provide cover for Erling Haaland. In an ideal world, City would sign a quality striker to provide adequate cover and support for their star striker. Enzo Maresca does have options to use if Haaland misses match. Antoine Semenyo and Phil Foden can play the striker role albeit in completely different ways. Floyd Samba has also played up front for City twice this season. However, it does seem that Manchester City would benefit from signing another striker during the January transfer window.

It has been reported that Manchester City have now sent scouts to watch Nicolo Tresoldi play for Club Brugge. The highly rated young striker has impressed so far this season. Tresoldi could be the ideal player to provide cover for Erling Haaland if it is a move City want to pursue in a couple of months’ time.

Manchester City are amongst a host of clubs who are keeping an eye on Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi.

Graeme Bailey has reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City and a host of other Premier League clubs recently had scouts in attendance to watch Nicolo Tresoldi in action for Club Brugge. Tresoldi bagged a hat trick as he fired his team to a 3-2 win over Sint-Truidense. As per Bailey’s report Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all had scouts at the match.

It is also reported by Bailey that Manchester City are carrying out their own ‘due diligence’ by having scouts cast their eye on Nicolo Tresoldi. Furthermore, Bailey reports that City are keeping an eye on promising young players as part of their recruitment strategy.

Nicolo Tresoldi ticks all of the right boxes to fill a hole in Enzo Maresca’s squad.

First of all, to address the elephant in the room. Manchester City have operated under the philosophy of business as usual during the 115-saga. There is no reason to expect this to change during the January transfer window while that issue remains ongoing. That is the point of view I’m taking when assessing what business Manchester City may do in January.

Back to the point at hand. When looking at what type of striker Manchester City could target to be a backup to Erling Haaland, they could target an experienced striker. But that isn’t typically how City operate. The other option is to sign a young striker who could play a role now and potentially have resale value in the future. That is where Nicolo Tresoldi fits.

Nicolo Tresoldi is 22 years of age with his best football ahead of him. So far this season he has scored 12 goals in 14 matches in all competitions for Club Brugge. Tresoldi has shown that he is an adept finisher with great instincts in the box. He is a quality finisher with both feet which is a great skill for any striker to have. Also, Tresoldi is physically strong and good in the air.

In terms of his build up, or hold up, play, Nicole Tresoldi is no slouch in this department. He isn’t just a pure number nine in this sense. The young striker is skilled at receiving the ball and holding up possession. Tresoldi also has the potential to grow in facet of the game. You can see the potential for Tresoldi to grow but he has the tools to become a quality striker in the right environment.

There looks to be a striker

Final thoughts.

Manchester City do need to find another striker to provide quality cover for Erling Haaland. Playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland is no easy task for any player. However, despite this, there is an opening there for a young striker to sign for City to learn from the best and grow as a player. Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi definitely ticks this box. Manchester City are reportedly keeping an eye on his progress and Tresoldi does tick the boxes of a potential City signing. It will be interesting to see if it is a move City pursue in January.
