‘Their ego no go gree’ — Mary Remmy Njoku on men threatened by successful wives

Nollywood actress, Mary Remmy Njoku, has said some men struggle when their wives become more successful, arguing that ego and insecurity can make them feel threatened by their partners’ achievements.

Njoku made the statement in a post shared on her Instagram page while discussing how couples react when the woman begins earning significantly more than the man.

She said many women are happy when their husbands become successful because they see their partner’s achievement as a win for the family.

However, she noted that some men struggle when the situation is reversed.

“When the woman starts earning significantly more, some men begin to feel emasculated, inadequate, or disrespected. Even when she has done absolutely nothing to make them feel that way,” she wrote.

According to the actress, disagreements can sometimes be blamed on the woman’s higher income, even when her behaviour has not changed.

“Suddenly, every little disagreement becomes, ‘It’s because you have money more than me.’ And that’s the real issue,” she said.

Njoku argued that the problem can come from a man’s insecurity about what his wife’s success means for him, rather than from the woman herself.

She added that a woman’s success should not make her husband feel inferior and that a man who loves his partner should be able to celebrate her achievements without turning them into competition.

Njoku ended her message with a blunt remark: “But their Ego no go gree.”
