After escaping with a 72-68 victory in Game 1 at Memorial Coliseum, La Familia couldn’t replicate that performance Monday night, falling to The Ville in convincing fashion at Freedom Hall to set up a decisive Game 3.
La Familia led 15-12 after the first quarter, but The Ville completely took over from there. La Familia managed just seven points in the second quarter as The Ville exploded for 24, taking a 36-22 halftime lead.
The Ville continued to control the game after the break, outscoring La Familia 21-17 in the third quarter and never looking back.
Montrezl Harrell was the biggest difference, finishing with a dominant 35-point performance after scoring 18 in the first half. With Marcus Lee and Archie Goodwin unavailable, and Willie Cauley-Stein leaving early with a foot injury, La Familia had no answer for Harrell inside.
La Familia also struggled offensively, shooting just 20-of-59 (33.9%) from the field and 8-of-25 (32%) from 3-point range while being outrebounded 43-30.
Now, the rivalry heads back to Lexington for a winner-take-all Game 3 on Wednesday, July 22, at 6 p.m. ET inside Memorial Coliseum. If La Familia wants to advance, it will need to slow down Harrell, rebound better and shoot much more efficiently.
There was encouraging news, as sideline reporter Jen Hale shared that La Familia general manager Twany Beckham has six players on standby for Game 3.
