New York Jets running back Breece Hall misses another game, and it is becoming costly.
Breece Hall was ruled out of the New York Jets‘ tilt with the Las Vegas Raiders, making it five consecutive absences.
Hall has 163 yards and one touchdown across three games this season, but he has not played since Week 3, due to a troubling quadriceps injury.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Hall has a $20,000 per-game appearance bonus, which means with five consecutive games out, he has now missed out on $100,000 in bonus money.
Over a full 17-game season, Hall could potentially earn $340,000 in appearance money. This season he has lost more than he has earned ($60,000).
Teams factor these bonuses into contracts to offset potential injuries, giving incentives to players to push through and suit up.
Hall is signed to a three-year $43.5 million contract, rendering his bonuses fairly insignificant in comparison – but $100,000 is still a significant amount of money for a player to lose out on, simply for not suiting up.
His contract could be worth in excess of $45 million if all incentives across his deal are hit.
Breece Hall will still be the Jets starter when he returns
The Jets were 1-2 when Hall was in the lineup and have been 1-3 since, heading into the Raiders game. Hall is officially inactive for the matchup.
Braelon Allen has been filling in for the Jets. He has 418 yards across seven games, and two touchdowns.
Speaking this week, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn indicated that when Hall does return, he will lead the backfield – but there will be a split.
He said: “Breece is our starter, he’s always been our starter, but Braelon is going to get touches too.”
The Jets face the Chiefs and then the Bills after this week. Hall won’t want to miss out on too much more bonus money.
