As most of you know, Kon Knueppel comes from a pretty athletic family. Both of his parents played, his four brothers all play, and the second son in the family, Kager, has committed to Duke as well.
His uncle, Tod Kowalczyk, coaches Toledo, another uncle, Klay Knueppel, coaches the women’s basketball team at Wisconsin Lutheran College, and a third uncle, Jeff Nordgaard, played in the NBA.
And there’s at least one more basketball playing member of the family, and Duke will see him this season.
Kon’s cousin, Zavier Zens, attended Wisconsin Lutheran, like Kon and Kager. He’s a 6-7 freshman for Illinois, and as a senior, he averaged 23.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Between Kon, Kager, and Zavier, Wisconsin Lutheran has won three straight state titles, and is going for four straight this year.
It’s hard to know how much he’ll play for the Illini, but clearly, the Knueppel/Noordgard genes are hardwired for hoops.
