The conditions under which Barcelona will push for a goalkeeper signing this summer – report

A goalkeeper is not high on Barcelona’s list of transfer priorities as matters stand, especially given that they only signed Joan Garcia last summer.

The Spaniard arrived and took over as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and even remained rock-solid in goal last season. He was, in fact, one of the driving forces behind the team’s success.

His arrival relegated Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to a fringe role at the club, especially given the German’s issues with form and fitness.

Heading into next season, Barcelona are looking to move the captain out of the club, and will count on Szczesny as their backup option after Garcia.

As relayed by Mundo Deportivo in a recent report, Barcelona are not planning to sign a new goalkeeper this summer unless something drastic changes around Szczesny’s future.

If the Polish star leaves the club or is unable to contribute as an effective backup owing to his age, Alex Remiro is their top choice to arrive as a backup option.

As of today, however, there is a low chance of such a drastic change happening and the manager has complete faith in Szczesny to be Garcia’s deputy.

If Szczesny persists this summer, which Barcelona have marked as the most probable scenario, the Catalans will pursue Remiro next summer. After all, he will be a free agent at that point and will arrive on better terms.

Remiro has been linked with a move to Catalonia for a long time now, and Barcelona value the player’s willingness to contribute even as a fringe star.

In that sense, negotiating next summer will be easier for the club as his contract will end and he will be available as a free agent.

Even if there is a renewal, it will be easier for Barcelona to convince Real Sociedad of a move for next June.

The player is calm about his future and likes the idea of playing for Barcelona at this stage in his career. In six months, he will be free to negotiate with external clubs and he is aware of the power he has to make a move happen.
