The Buffalo Bills are looking increasingly like legitimate Super Bowl contenders. However, even a 6-1 team should not become complacent when the trade deadline approaches. Josh Allen has been spectacular. James Cook III continues to give opposing defenses headaches. Buffalo’s receiving corps has delivered enough production to keep the offense among the AFC’s most dangerous. Still, there is one lingering concern that could become particularly costly: the lack of dependable perimeter receiving depth. Brandon Beane should take advantage of the final week before the deadline to address that weakness.
AFC heavyweights

Buffalo’s 2026 campaign has unfolded like an emphatic statement of intent. The Bills opened the year with three consecutive authoritative triumphs before stumbling in a frustrating divisional loss to New England in Week 4. Buffalo responded by outlasting the Rams in a Monday Night Football overtime epic. They followed it with a disciplined road victory over the Raiders. Emerging from their Week 7 bye refreshed, the Bills dismantled the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. Now riding high, the Bills have established themselves as juggernauts. And yet, their sustained offensive ceiling demands one final reinforcement before November’s window snaps shut.
Reliable perimeter receiver
Despite its impressive offensive production, Buffalo’s receiving situation deserves closer examination. DJ Moore’s return from his shoulder injury was encouraging. That said, relying on him to remain completely healthy throughout the remainder of the season would be a considerable gamble.

Joshua Palmer has also struggled to establish consistent availability and production. This has left Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir with significant responsibilities. Coleman offers an intriguing contested-catch threat on the outside. Meanwhile, Shakir has become an important weapon operating primarily from the slot. Both have valuable roles, but Buffalo could benefit from another receiver capable of consistently winning one-on-one matchups.
Allen’s improvisational ability makes him one of football’s most dangerous quarterbacks. However, the Bills should not make him manufacture every explosive play through extended scrambles and off-script throws. A polished route-runner would make this offense considerably harder to defend.
Ideal trade target
The most intriguing solution is Cleveland’s Jerry Jeudy. The veteran receiver still offers an appealing combination of route-running ability, separation skills, and experience. Jeudy demonstrated his considerable upside during the 2024 season. That’s when he recorded 90 receptions for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns. However, his production has declined since then. Through eight games in 2026, he has managed just 16 receptions for 171 yards without a touchdown.
Cleveland’s crowded receiving rotation has also complicated his opportunities. Nevertheless, Jeudy has shown recently that he can still contribute meaningful plays. His ability to operate outside or from the slot would give Buffalo additional flexibility in its offensive formations.
There is one important complication, though. Browns head coach Todd Monken has publicly defended Jeudy’s value. For Monken, Cleveland is better with him than without him. That means Buffalo should not expect the Browns to simply give away an experienced receiver.
Still, a 2027 fourth-round selection and conditional 2028 sixth-rounder, with a seventh-round pick returning to Buffalo, would be a reasonable opening proposal. Cleveland would receive additional draft capital, while Jeudy would get an opportunity to contribute to a legitimate championship contender.
Making the financials work
The biggest obstacle to completing this transaction is Buffalo’s financial flexibility. The Bills have approximately $3.9 million in available salary-cap space. That makes any significant acquisition a complicated exercise. Jeudy also carries a substantial 2026 cap charge. As such, Beane would need to examine the precise prorated salary obligations and explore restructuring existing contracts if necessary.
That financial hurdle should not automatically end discussions. Buffalo can explore contract adjustments and negotiate with Cleveland regarding the structure of a potential transaction. However, Beane must avoid sacrificing valuable future flexibility simply to add another receiver.
One more weapon

The Bills do not need a complete offensive overhaul. They already have an elite quarterback and enough receiving talent to challenge virtually any defense. What they need is insurance and another dependable option when opponents inevitably concentrate their coverage on Moore, Coleman, and Shakir. Jeudy could provide precisely that.
Beane should explore the opportunity before the deadline passes. If Cleveland is willing to negotiate a financially workable deal, Buffalo should be aggressive. The Bills are already championship contenders. However, adding another proven route-runner could make Allen’s offense even more dangerous when the games matter most.
