The Longhorns are one win away from a second straight national title after a strong outing from pitcher Teagan Kavan and a two‑run home run by Katie Stewart on Wednesday. Kavan threw a complete game, allowing three earned runs and recording six strikeouts over seven innings. Stewart had her fourth consecutive game with a home run.

If Texas is to win back-to-back championships, it will have to go through NiJaree Canady, the two-time national pitcher of the year, who is the presumptive starter for Game 2. Texas Tech has depended on her the entire season.
Texas Tech coach Gerry Glasco took Canady out of Wednesday’s game after she faced six batters in relief in the first and second innings.
