Texas Southern snapped its five-game losing streak Saturday, defeating Southern 24-21 at Reliant Stadium.
Miguel Arana’s 46-yard field goal as time expired gave the Tigers (2-5, 1-3 SWAC) their first win since beating North Carolina Central in their season opener.
Jacob Washington, Athean Renfro and Cam’Ron McCoy each ran for touchdowns as TSU built a 21-7 lead midway through the third quarter. Renfro finished with a team-high 135 yards on 23 carries, while McCoy added 71 on 16 rushes.
But Southern (3-5, 1-3) tied the score on Trey Holly’s 2-yard TD run with 4:24 left in the fourth quarter.
TSU then took the ball and drove to the Southern 29 in nine plays, setting up Arana’s winning kick.
TSU hosts Grambling next Saturday at Thorne Stadium.
