Texas A&M RB coach name one of the best recruiters in the nation

· · 1 min read

Texas A&M’s recruiting success has reached historical heights after third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff landed four more prospects in the No. 1-ranked 2027 class, led by five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, who headed back to College Station this weekend for his official visit after committing last month.

While Elko deserves a bulk of the credit for helping secure all 19 commitments, this was, and continues to be, a full team effort, especially running backs coach and assistant head coach Trooper Taylor, one of the most respected coaches in all of college football.

After following Elko to Texas A&M after two seasons at Duke, Taylor has been at the forefront of helping land nearly every blue-chip prospect over the last three cycles. In the 2027 class, Taylor is personally responsible for helping land five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey, four-star defensive lineman Elijah Patmon, and four-star tackle DeMarrion Johnson, while Dorsey and Johnson have shut down their recruitments.

As a position coach, Taylor helped develop former standout running back Le’Veon Moss, whose career was sadly cut short by injuries; nonetheless, the veteran assistant remains an extremely valuable asset as a developer and recruiter. Nationally, Taylor was recently ranked as the ninth-best recruiter among Power Four programs, while Miami offensive line coach Trooper Taylor took the top spot.

After landing rising three-star safety Errol Kerns on Friday, Elko, Taylor, and the rest of the Aggie coaching staff are looking to secure commitments from five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson and five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, who are also taking official visits this weekend.
