Texans HC DeMeco Ryans names Blake Fisher ‘most improved’ offensive lineman

There is a lot of concern around the Houston Texans’ offensive line going into this season. In the Texans‘ updated unofficial depth chart ahead of their final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, Aireontae Ersery was listed as the starting left tackle with Wyatt Teller at left guard, rookie first-rounder Keylan Rutledge as the starting center, Ed Ingram at right guard and Trent Brown at right tackle.

Someone who is often forgotten about on the offensive line is Blake Fisher. Drafted by Houston in the second round back in the 2024 NFL Draft, Fisher rarely saw any action last season with the first-team offense outside of being an extra blocker.

But perhaps that changes this fall? According to head coach DeMeco Ryans, Fisher has greatly improved throughout training camp.

“For Blake, I’ve definitely seen a focused guy. He’s improved a ton. If I gave out awards, he would get the award for the most improved offensive lineman,” Ryans said. “From what he did last year from being in that jumbo-type role, he lined up at left tackle every day and he’s gotten better every single day. I’m really pleased with Blake. I’m proud of the work that he’s put in. He’s shown up daily, he’s improved, he’s taking the coaching really well and that’s what it looks like. When you put the work in, you can get better and Blake has shown that tremendously.”

DeMeco Ryans is pleased with Blake Fisher’s growth:

Houston’s starters will not play in its preseason matchup with the Panthers, but Fisher is expected to get significant reps in the first half. Since he has previously been used as a swing tackle, it would not be surprising if the Texans used him on the line at both left and right tackle in this game.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.
