Tension as Zenith Bank confirms hackers’ unauthorised access to customers’ information

There is tension in the Nigerian banking sector as Zenith Bank has confirmed unauthorised access to some of its customers’ information by hackers.

Zenith disclosed this in a notice to customers on Wednesday.

Recall that several customers had complained of unauthorised access to their information domiciled with Zenith Bank.

Reacting, Zenith Bank said it has begun an investigation into the unauthorised access.

According to the bank, the incident is part of a broader cyberattack targeting multiple firms.

“Zenith Bank is investigating unauthorised access to limited customer information, including email addresses and phone numbers. This incident is part of a broader, global cyber-attack targeting multiple international organizations across various sectors,” Zenith Bank stated.

Recall that in March, DAILY POST reported that hackers gained unauthorised access to customers’ data belonging to Remita, Sterling Bank, Providus Bank and other Nigerian banks.

In April, the Nigerian government vowed to investigate the data breach. However, there has been no public update on the findings as of the time of filing this report.
