Tennessee football DL Xavier Gilliam suffers injury vs Texas

Tennessee football defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam went down with an injury at the 8:40 mark of the second quarter.

The Penn State transfer needed trainers to tend to him after an Arch Manning 11-yard rush on third-and-18. Trainers tended to Gilliam’s lower body. He walked off the field under his own power, but had a noticeable limp.

Gilliam went straight into the medical tent after the series.

He had two tackles-for-loss, a sack and a quarterback hit against Manning and Texas in the first half before the injury.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Gilliam has four sacks on the season, a team high. Gilliam followed defensive coordinator Jim Knowles from Penn State in the offseason.
