A teacher at Brains Mind School, Ugbamaka Igah, in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mariam Usman, has died after allegedly being assaulted by the family members of a pupil she had disciplined for misconduct.
According to her family, the incident began on June 17, 2026, after Mariam reportedly flogged a pupil for misbehaving during class.
Her elder brother alleged that the pupil’s parents and uncle stormed the school later that day and returned the following day to confront the teacher over the punishment.
He further claimed that while Mariam was on her way to a mosque for prayers, the family members allegedly intercepted her, assaulted her severely, and stripped her naked in public, an act he described as degrading and inhumane.

Her death has thrown the Ugbamaka Igah community into mourning, with colleagues, relatives, and residents expressing shock over the incident.
The bereaved family has called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
