Taraba Governor Kefas sets up five-man committee to monitor road projects

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has constituted a five-man committee to monitor road projects across the state’s 16 local government councils.

The list of committee members was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Jalingo by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Chief Timothy Gebon Kataps.

According to the statement, the committee is expected to inspect and monitor ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects to ensure compliance with required standards and specifications.

The development comes amid concerns raised by residents over the condition of some road projects across the state, including alleged abandonment, damage caused by rainfall, poor drainage systems and claims of substandard materials used in some drainage works.

The committee is also expected to assess the progress and quality of ongoing projects and identify areas requiring urgent government intervention.

The move is being viewed as part of efforts by the state government to strengthen supervision of infrastructure projects and ensure that public funds invested in road development deliver the intended benefits to residents.

However, the constitution of the committee has also generated questions among residents, particularly over whether enhanced monitoring will prevent poor-quality work and ensure that contractors adhere to approved specifications.

Residents have therefore expressed interest in seeing the committee translate its mandate into effective supervision and timely corrective action where deficiencies are identified.
