The Taraba State Environmental Sanitation Agency, TSESA, has warned livestock owners and rearers across the state, particularly in Jalingo metropolis, against allowing their animals to roam freely in public places.
The agency said the practice posed a threat to public infrastructure and newly planted trees intended to enhance environmental protection and beautification.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Jalingo, TSESA urged livestock owners to take immediate steps to secure their animals and prevent them from wandering onto major roads, landscaped areas and other government maintained facilities.
The agency expressed concern that the movement of livestock around public spaces could damage newly planted trees and undermine government efforts to promote a cleaner, greener and healthier Taraba State.
“Appropriate measures would be taken against defaulters in accordance with existing regulations to protect public infrastructure and preserve the state’s environmental investments”, TSESA said.
TSESA also cautioned livestock owners that failure to control their animals could expose them to harm and result in potential losses.
The agency called on residents to cooperate with its efforts to maintain a clean, safe and environmentally friendly environment across the state.
