Tansian university mourns vice-chancellor who died 24-hours after inauguration
“His assumption of office was therefore not a sudden development of merely two days. It formed part of an established administrative arrangement that had been formally communicated to public and regulatory bodies and authorised in accordance with the University’s governance processes,” the Registrar said.
Institution Pays Tribute to Late Professor
The university described Umeoduagu as a distinguished academic, legislator, administrator, scholar and committed servant of Tansian University.
According to the institution, his dedication to the advancement of higher education extended beyond the immediate interests of the university.
His death has consequently been described as a major loss to the institution, his family, colleagues, students, associates and the wider academic community in Nigeria.
The Registrar said the university management was deeply affected by the professor’s sudden passing, particularly given his recent formal assumption of the substantive Vice-Chancellorship.
Uke said Umeoduagu’s contributions to the university and his service in different capacities would be remembered by members of the institution.
The university also expressed condolences to the late Vice-Chancellor’s immediate family and other people who were close to him.
Condolences as University Mourns
The institution extended its deepest condolences to Umeoduagu’s immediate family, relatives, friends, colleagues, students and associates, as well as all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
His death has left the university community mourning the loss of an academic who had assumed a major leadership responsibility at the institution.
While the university’s statement focused on correcting reports about the duration of his service as Acting Vice-Chancellor, it did not provide further details about the illness that preceded his death.
The institution’s management, however, acknowledged the profound impact of his passing on the university community and the wider academic environment.
Umeoduagu’s death came shortly after the expiration of the previous substantive Vice-Chancellor’s tenure and his formal inauguration to lead the institution, adding to the significance of the development for Tansian University.
The university community is now left to mourn the loss of its Vice-Chancellor while remembering his academic, administrative and public service contributions.
