Juventus’ search for a new goalkeeper is causing Luciano Spalletti some headaches, as he admitted finances might be a problem in the chase for Zion Suzuki.

The Bianconeri have been linked with a number of goalkeepers this transfer window, including Suzuki, Guglielmo Vicario and Emiliano Martinez.

Reports on Sunday suggest Juventus have backed out of a potential deal for Martinez, telling Aston Villa that the costs are too high.

Suzuki has Serie A experience, having played for Parma since 2024, though he has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain after impressing at the World Cup.

In 20 league appearances last season, Suzuki conceded 29 goals – only four more than Michele Di Gregorio (25 goals conceded in 30 appearances) and kept five clean sheets.

He made 66 saves in total from 94 shots on target faced, registering a 70.2% save rate in the Italian top-flight.

“I like Suzuki a lot, because he’s a goalkeeper with great prospects,” Spalletti told reporters.

“If you look at the papers, he is linked with all the biggest clubs, but at this moment he is prohibitively expensive, because there are many complications.

“We’ve also got to take into account our spending.”

Another option for Juventus is Vicario, who has effectively been frozen out by Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham.

He had hernia surgery back in March and has not featured since De Zerbi took over at the end of that month.

Vicario is expected to leave this summer – and has not travelled with Spurs for their pre-season tour – and Juve are said to be interested if they can secure a loan deal.

But Spalletti is wary about the reasons he has so far been left out at Spurs under De Zerbi.

“Vicario is an experienced goalkeeper who has already gone through some situations, one of them serious,” Spalletti said.

“We have to understand why a club like Tottenham decided to leave him out, what evaluations they made.”
