Suspected Boko Haram terrorists kill forest guard, three others in Adamawa

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Zah, a community in Yadul District of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing a forest guard and three other people.

Zah is one of several communities in Hong LGA that have been frequently attacked by Boko Haram elements in recent months and years, reportedly due to the communities’ proximity to the notorious Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

DAILY POST gathered on Tuesday that the latest attack occurred on the evening of Monday, July 27, when the terrorists were said to have arrived in the community on motorcycles, firing sporadically, setting houses ablaze and shooting directly at residents, leading to the deaths of four people, including a forest guard providing security against terrorists and other criminals.

Reports by Tuesday night indicated that, apart from the loss of lives and destruction of property, the attackers abducted a middle-aged woman before security forces engaged them in a gun battle that forced them to retreat from the community.

The Executive Chairman of Hong LGA, Aliyu Saad Yerima Hong, confirmed the attack, saying the deployment of additional security personnel to the area had ensured a steady return to normalcy.

“Residents should remain vigilant, cooperate closely with security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious activity in their surroundings,” the council chairman advised.

“We deeply appreciate the courage and dedication of our security forces. Had it not been for their prompt response, the casualties would have been far higher,” he said.
