Students welcome Dangote Foundation’s IPO grant initiative

“This is more than a share offer. It is an opportunity to learn about ownership, financial discipline and long-term wealth creation. Programmes like this can inspire students to develop healthy investment habits that will benefit them throughout their lives,” she said.

Students also said the initiative had generated conversations about saving, investing and asset ownership across campuses.

The Foundation said its objective extends beyond the current IPO, with the programme intended to encourage a culture of savings, investment and long-term wealth creation among young Nigerians.

Dangote Foundation explains its objective.

Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said the initiative was part of efforts to empower young people beyond traditional educational support.

“Supporting young people goes beyond access to education. It also involves providing opportunities that enable them to participate meaningfully in economic growth and wealth creation. Through this initiative, we want students to understand the value of saving, investing wisely and building wealth through ownership,” he said.

Dangote added that exposing young people to investment opportunities early could influence their financial decisions and encourage greater participation in the formal economy.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, said the programme was designed to combine financial education with practical experience.

“Financial literacy becomes more meaningful when individuals can apply what they learn. This initiative enables students to experience the investment process firsthand, from verification and subscription to share ownership, while reinforcing the importance of responsible participation in the capital market,” she said.

Initiative targets long-term investment culture.

Youssoufou said the Foundation hoped to encourage a lifelong interest in investing, financial literacy and asset ownership among young Nigerians.

The Foundation’s official terms state that the initiative is designed to promote financial inclusion and encourage savings and investment among eligible students of public and private tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Participation is voluntary and applies only to the DPRP IPO.

The Foundation also cautioned that participation does not guarantee that the value of the shares will increase or that shares will ultimately be allotted.

The Student Share Grant Initiative forms part of the Foundation’s broader focus on education, economic inclusion and youth empowerment, while providing participating students with practical exposure to investment and ownership in Nigeria’s capital market.
