Fists are flying at the box office and Street Fighter has sustained serious damage.
2026’s Street Fighter, which was directed and co-written by Kitao Sakurai, is the third live-action movie to adapt the video game franchise of the same name. The movie boasts a huge, star-studded ensemble cast that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Orville Peck as Vega, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Jason Momoa as Blanka. The movie debuted on October 16, taking No. 1 at the domestic box office with a $30.8 million opening weekend that was better than both previous movies combined.
Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Street Fighter is projected to earn a 3-day total of $8.15 million at the domestic box office, which will see it falling from No. 1 to No. 4 on the chart for the weekend, beneath the new releases Clayface (No. 1) and Wildwood (No. 3) and the holdover hit You Can See Everything (No. 3). This sees the movie expected to have a week-on-week drop of 74%, which would tie it with 2024’s Werewolves and The Front Room as the 136th biggest sophomore drop of all time, per Box Office Mojo.
If these numbers hold, Street Fighter will officially earn the fourth-biggest sophomore drop in history for a narrative movie distributed by Paramount, behind a trio of titles that are tied for first at 76.2%, namely the 2002 sci-fi sequel Star Trek: Nemesis, the 2003 Lisa Kudrow comedy Marci X, and the 2012 found footage horror movie The Devil Inside. In addition to being Paramount’s biggest drop of 2026, this marks their biggest in 14 years.
The only other Paramount movie of any kind with a bigger week 2 drop than Street Fighter or the three aforementioned titles was the James Cameron co-directed concert documentary Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft, which has the 11th biggest drop of all time with 87%. However, concert movies are almost universally frontloaded, because they target hardcore fans, who tend to see new releases during their opening weekends.
Below, see the five biggest week 2 drops for narrative movies from Paramount prior to the release of Street Fighter, and where they currently rank on the all-time chart.
The week 2 performance of Street Fighter marks yet another box office disappointment for the newly merged Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery (now known collectively as Skydance). The final pre-merger Warner Bros. movie was the Tom Cruise black comedy Digger, which reportedly cost more than $125 million and has so far only grossed $46.4 million worldwide. The movie is expected to lose more than $150 million by the end of its run.
Now Skydance’s Paramount branch has a disappointing movie of its own. While Street Fighter is not in such dire straits as Digger, the movie still comes with a reported budget of $82 million. Under normal circumstances, its estimated break-even point would be somewhere around $205 million.
Paramount is technically only on the hook for distribution costs (the movie was produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom), which means they may have already turned a profit. However, if the movie’s ultimate trajectory means that it won’t even earn its budget back, this could still capsize its potential to spawn the sequel teased by the ending of Street Fighter.
Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order.

It ultimately remains to be seen how well the movie performs by the end of its run. However, in spite of the 78% Popcornmeter score that verified ticket buyers’ Street Fighter reviews have earned it on Rotten Tomatoes, this substantial drop indicates that it has not garnered strong word of mouth during its first week in theaters, which is a trend that could very well continue as more new releases flood theaters and distract potential viewers from the video game adaptation.
