The master of horror, Stephen King, is getting another exciting adaptation with an impressive cast.
Nearly two decades after its original theatrical release, the 2007 horror movie 1408 is officially getting a sequel. And two very talented actors have been confirmed for the project. According to Variety, Natalia Dyer, best known for playing Nancy Wheeler in Netflix’s Stranger Things, and Elijah Wood, who portrayed Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, are set to star alongside returning cast members John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.
Dyer will lead the upcoming sequel, while Wood has been cast in a supporting role. Although Cusack and Jackson are expected to reprise their characters from the original film, both actors are still reportedly negotiating the terms of their contracts. However, with Dyer confirmed as the lead, the sequel will likely shift its focus away from the original story, meaning the returning 1408 actors will likely serve as side characters.
The director of the first 1408 film, Mikael Håfström, is returning to helm the sequel for the Spyglass adaptation. Håfström also co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Verheiden. Specific details about the story have not been revealed yet at the time of this article’s publication, including the identities of Dyer’s and Wood’s characters.
Released in June 2007, 1408 was adapted from King’s short story of the same name, which was included in his 2002 book Everything’s Eventual, a collection of several of the legendary horror author’s short stories. The movie follows Mike Enslin, played by Cusack, a writer who investigates haunted locations despite being a skeptic when it comes to the paranormal.
The original movie also featured Mary McCormack, Tony Shalhoub, and Jasmine Jessica Anthony. It became a massive commercial success when it was released in theaters. 1408 brought in more than $130 million worldwide at the box office with a production budget of only $25 million.
For now, the sequel’s official title, additional cast members, production schedule, and storyline details have not been confirmed by the studio. The extent of Cusack’s and Jackson’s involvement in the upcoming movie is also unknown and will likely depend on their ongoing negotiations.
There is no official release date for the untitled 1408 sequel at the time of this article’s publication.
