Stephen Curry Addresses Injury Frustrations And Hopes To Finish Career Like Tom Brady, Derek Jeter

Stephen Curry recently sat down with SiriusXM Radio for an interview ahead of the Warriors’ upcoming season. The 38-year-old superstar first spoke candidly about his frustrations with sitting out most of last season.

“Yeah, it’s been frustrating for a lot of reasons, knowing we had a really good run up until I went down in a second-round appearance against Minnesota, and then trying to double back through 82 games and knowing we had the pieces to hopefully pick up where we left off,” Stephen Curry said.

“And then I missed almost half the season, Jimmy gets hurt, Moses gets hurt, and you know you need health and availability in this league to do anything. And so it’s been an emotional roller coaster, for sure, just trying to figure out how to maintain the identity of what we do and how we do it, but also reimagine.”

“I know we’ve been using that word, but it’s legitimate that we’ve been approaching this training camp with optimism about what this team can do moving forward. And I know I need to have a big part in that,” Stephen Curry added.

Stephen Curry missed almost half the regular season last year (only 43 games played) and finished the season averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds, shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from beyond the arc.

Still playing at an All-NBA level, Curry believes the Warriors can pick up where they left off before his injury and still have a legitimate shot at a championship.

At 38, Curry is among the few stars in sports history to perform at such a high level this late in their careers. Other athletes who have done that include NFL legend Tom Brady and MLB legend Derek Jeter.

During the interview, Stephen Curry was asked if he imagines he can emulate those players in his own career.

“That is why I’m playing. It’s why, you know, especially to do it in the same place that I’ve been doing it for the last 17 years. I feel like that’s the ultimate challenge, and I’m embracing that challenge. I’m excited about the opportunity to hopefully get some young guys a part of that journey.”

“Of course I want to win, and you’re hoping that you can be in the mix, things go your way, the ball bounces, you know, you get the fortune of health that can put you in that conversation, and if we have one more run at it, that would be ideal,” Curry concluded.

As Curry enters his 18th season with the Warriors, his championship ambitions remain stronger than ever. Despite injuries and an aging roster, the four-time champion remains optimistic about the Warriors’ potential. If the team stays healthy, Curry hopes to lead one more memorable championship run.
