Steelers updated mock draft after the Broderick Jones trade

On Saturday night, the news came out that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys were formalizing a trade to send offensive tackle Broderick Jones to the Cowboys in exchange for a swap of picks that lands the Steelers an extra third-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

This prompted us to update our five-round pick draft by adding that new pick and removing a fourth-round selection sent to Dallas.

As of now, Dylan Cook is the team’s best option to start at right tackle and if the Broderick Jones is any indication, we can’t be confident in Max Iheanachor at this point. Meanwhile, Jordan Seaton is a sure thing at tackle and a day-one starter.

Similar to Iheanachor at tackle, we cannot assume Gennings Dunker is the future at right guard so we take his former teammate, Kade Pierper who is a much safer pick.

Safety gets addressed with the first of the Steelers two third-round picks in part because there wasn’t value in the third two rounds when the Steelers went on the clock but McDonald is a great value here.

We expect some turnover at wide receiver next offseason, so with the Cowboys’ third-round pick, we go for Oklahoma State’s Wyatt Young, a lightning-fast route runner who is explosive with the football in his hands.

We take a flyer on John Mateer here on the assumption that after the season, Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph are gone and the quarterback competition is wide open.
