The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has battled through injuries this season, but despite the physical challenges, he has still managed to suit up for three games. However, his journey has involved overcoming much more than injuries.

Pittman recently opened up about a childhood struggle that helped shape the person and player he has become. The Steelers star revealed that he used to struggle with a stutter when he was younger.

“Honestly, when I was young, I also struggled with something different. So I used to stutter, and honestly, without sports, I probably wouldn’t be standing up here. I wouldn’t have been forced into those opportunities,” Pittman said.

Pittman revealed the story during a recent media interaction following his appearance at a flag football clinic at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. The Steelers wideout went on to explain how football gradually helped him develop his communication skills.

“Through football, like I’ve had to have been forced to do media, TV, and stuff like that. And that really developed like that skill,” Pittman added.

Pittman once needed sports to help him find his voice. Now, he has an opportunity to use that voice to inspire the next generation.

However, while Pittman has already overcome his childhood struggle, the 2026 season has presented another major challenge in his football career.

After spending his entire NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts, Pittman made a significant change by joining the Pittsburgh Steelers and becoming part of Aaron Rodgers’ team. The move marked the first time in his professional career that he had to adjust to a new organization and a new football environment.

However, Pittman and the Steelers are currently 2-2 on the season following their Week 4 loss. The upcoming game is crucial for the Steelers as they look to bounce back, but it carries even more significance for Pittman Jr., as he is set to face his former team and teammates for the first time in his career.
