The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ season opener against the Atlanta Falcons is shaping up to be one weird matchup. The big news, of course, is that the Falcons will be without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who’s injured.

But the twist doesn’t stop there. On Saturday, reports surfaced that the Falcons have another twist to their quarterback story, and it could benefit the Steelers.

Aaron Rodgers, of course, is the starting quarterback for Pittsburgh. Barring an injury, God forbid, he’ll be there and stay healthy throughout his final year in the NFL.

Cooper Rush dealing with back spasms ahead of Steelers game

With Tagovailoa out, backup quarterback Cooper Rush is set to take the field for the Falcons. But, he may not be 100% up to the task. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Rush is dealing with back spasms. That’s never fun or a good sign. But Atlanta says he will still get the start on Sunday.

“Falcons starting QB Cooper Rush, who was replacing the injured QB Tua Tagovailoa, experienced back spasms Saturday but the team said he still will start Sunday at Pittsburgh,” Schefter stated on X.

Rush hails from Michigan. He’s been a quarterback in some capacity in the NFL for eight seasons, those first seven with the Dallas Cowboys and the last with the Baltimore Ravens. With the Cowboys, he played in 38 games and started 14. With the Ravens, he played in four games and started two. He was under a lot of pressure last season when Lamar Jackson was injured, and now, the pressure is on again.
