It’s hard to pick a favorite Star Trek era. For many, it’s the era you grew up in. Others have fan favorites, like The Next Generation, bolstered by its all-star cast.
However, if you asked fans to pick their favorite villains, odds are many will say, “The Borg.” They’ve been a huge part of the series ever since they appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation from Season 2 onward, and it’s hard to find an adaptation that doesn’t include them in some form.
Thanks to a confirmation from Wizards of the Coast, we know exactly what the We Are The Borg release will entail come November.
On November 13, the global tabletop release of Star Trek in Magic: The Gathering will kick off, following pre-release events held from November 6-12. One of those releases is the “We Are The Borg” Commander deck, which you can pick up in either standard or Collector’s Edition format.
Here’s what you get from each Commander Deck:
Each Magic: The Gathering Star Trek Commander deck includes the following:
-
1 Ready-to-play 100-card Commander deck
- 1 Traditional foil face commander with borderless art
- 99 Non-foil cards, including 32 new-to-Magic cards
- 10 Non-foil double-sided tokens
- 1 Reference card
- 1 Deck box
- 1 Traditional foil face commander with borderless art
- 99 Non-foil cards, including 32 new-to-Magic cards
And here’s the loadout for each Collector’s Edition Commander Deck (featuring the same four themes):
-

- 99 Surge foil cards, including 32 new-to-Magic cards

- These tokens are surge foil on one side and non-foil on the other side.
- 1 Reference card
- 1 Deck box
- 1 Surge foil face commander with borderless art
- 99 Surge foil cards, including 32 new-to-Magic cards
Other Commander decks include Federation Fleet (Blue-Red-White), Landing Party (Green-White-Blue), and Klingon Fury (Red-White-Black). Federation Fleet is led by Jean-Luc Picard and Captain Janeway, both of whom provide useful card draw.
Landing Party is anchored by Commander Spock, who can reveal the top card of your library, then cast it without paying its cost if the spell has a mana value equal to or less than the number of different named lands you control. Naturally, it has at least 23 unique lands, plus islands, plains, and mountains. Then there’s Klingon Fury, led by Worf. He can create 2/1 red Klingon Warrior tokens with haste.

We Are The Borg is a White-Blue-Black Commander deck centered on The Borg Queen as the centerpiece. You’ll also be able to wild the Locutus of Borg legendary artifact creature, taken from Picard’s Borg storyline in Next Generation. Other cards include Korok, Seven of Nine, Vox, Hugh, and One (Borg Evolved).
The Borg Collective will play out thematically through the in-pack cards and tokens, which simulate the Borg’s assimilation. You can take creatures from your opponent’s graveyards to turn into Borg, with x10 Borg tokens. One card that synergizes with this is Deliver From Chaos, an instant that exiles target artifact or creature, then creates X 1/1 colorless Borg artifact creature tokens, where X is that permanent’s mana value.
For Star Trek fans, the release of the Magic: The Gathering set is a pretty monumental moment that explores every era of the series. A few shows are represented more than others, but pretty much every major show is included.
