St. Pauli midfielder scores wonder goal in Australia’s second friendly against star-studded Brazil

St. Pauli midfielder Connor Metcalfe scored his third goal for Australia in their 4-2 defeat to Brazil. Like the first meeting between the sides last Friday, the Socceroos took the lead with the 26-year-old scoring from outside the box with a brilliant effort.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side were held to a 1-1 draw in Townsville, but they eventually found their way in the second friendly to record a comeback victory. LaLiga stars Raphinha and Vini Jr. were both on target after heavy criticism for repeating their poor World Cup form in the first fixture.

Metcalfe was also on target at the World Cup as he netted Australia’s first goal of the tournament in the 2-0 win over Türkiye. The central midfielder helped St. Pauli to a Bundesliga promotion in 2024, but they’re now back in 2. Bundesliga after finishing last season at the bottom of the standings.

Köln’s new midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler also started both matches against the former giants. Ex-Bayern youngster Nestroy Irankunda scored a sensational free-kick when these teams met at the end of last week.

Brazil will next play against India in Kolkata in what will be their first-ever game against the most populous country in the world.
