ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — The St. Joseph Goats exit Week 2 of the Arena League season with a 2-0 record after defeating the Ozark Lunkers 77-38.
Both teams entered the game undefeated, with the Goats beating the Arkansas Diamonds on the road and the Lunkers winning against the Eau Claire Axemen 48-32 at home.
The game started playing fairly evenly. The Lunkers scored 12 points in the first quarter while the Goats answered with 13. The tide of the game turned immediately in the second quarter, with the Goats adding 37 points and the Lunkers only adding 12. Ozark never recovered, only scoring 14 points in the second half of the game while St. Joseph added 27.
Goats quarterback Angelo Trujillo threw for 454 yards, eight touchdowns and only one interception. Lunkers quarterback Tirri Jones had 407 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Trujillo sole interception was the only turnover for the Goats the entire game. Ozark lost the turnover battle with a total of 6, adding 2 fumbles on top of Trujillo’s 4 interceptions.
The St. Joseph Goats, now on a two game winning streak, will face The Iowa Woo at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, on the road in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Woo’s current record in 0-2 after losing to the Monroe Greenheads and Memphis Hound Dogs.
