However, the championship series against the New York Knicks highlighted several weaknesses that the Spurs must address if they want to take the final step toward a title.

The result itself was disappointing, but the manner of the defeat revealed even more. Throughout the series, San Antonio repeatedly put itself in strong positions, only to let games slip away. Large leads vanished, execution faltered in key moments, and the Knicks consistently capitalized on mistakes.

The most painful example came in the deciding Game 5, when the Spurs squandered a huge advantage and watched their season end despite appearing in control for much of the night.

For a young roster, those experiences can be valuable lessons. Wembanyama continued to show why he is viewed as one of the league’s brightest stars, while De’Aaron Fox provided another dynamic offensive option.

Reaching the Finals is evidence that the organization’s long-term plan is moving in the right direction. At the same time, the series exposed areas where the roster still lacks balance.

The encouraging part for San Antonio is that it has the resources to improve. With financial flexibility and valuable draft assets available, the front office has multiple paths to upgrade the roster.

The Finals showed that the Spurs are already contenders. Their challenge now is turning promise into a championship-caliber roster capable of finishing the job.
