Sophie Cunningham’s rapid Instagram growth could see her overtake Caitlin Clark very soon

Regardless of what you think about Sophie Cunningham, the Indiana Fever star has recently become one of the most well-known players in the WNBA.

Her notoriety grew rapidly last month after she did an interview with ESPN and spoke about how she wanted ‘to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men’.

Those comments have brought a lot of eyes to the WNBA, the Indiana Fever and Cunningham herself.

The Fever’s recent win over the Atlanta Dream set a new WNBA viewership record, while Sophie’s Instagram is growing at a very fast rate.

As per the Social Blade page for ‘@sophie_cham’, Cunningham has amassed 1.4m new followers in the last 30 days.

At the time of writing, that means she is sitting on 4,009,510 followers, which is very nearly as many as Caitlin Clark.

As per her Social Blade stats, Clark currently has 4,030,299 followers on Instagram, which is only about 21,000 more than Cunningham.

Caitlin’s Instagram, however, is not growing anywhere near as fast as her teammate’s right now.

She has gained 134,000 new followers in the last 30 days, with her biggest spike coming on July 27 when 7,808 new people followed her account.

Meanwhile, barring Friday, August 21, which is ongoing, the lowest number of followers Sophie has gained in one day in the last 30 days was 14,545 on July 26.

As a result, if the Fever’s ace keeps getting new fans at her current rate, she will surpass Clark’s total in less than a week.
