The Chicago Sky didn’t just leave Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces with another loss. Veteran guard Skylar Diggins also walked away with a financial penalty.

Diggins was assessed her third technical foul of the 2026 WNBA season during Chicago’s 107-99 loss to Las Vegas. While the technical didn’t change the outcome of the game, it does trigger an automatic fine under the league’s disciplinary policy. With Chicago preparing for another matchup against the Aces later this week, Diggins will now have to be careful as additional technical fouls become even more costly.

Why Skylar Diggins is being fined

Diggins picked up the technical with 5:38 remaining in the second quarter after arguing with officials. Las Vegas guard Chelsea Gray converted the ensuing free throw, extending the Aces’ lead to 47-38.

Under WNBA rules, players are fined $500 for each of their first three technical fouls during the regular season. Beginning with the fourth technical through the seventh, the fine doubles to $1,000. After a player receives more than seven technical fouls, each additional technical carries a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension.

Sunday’s whistle was Diggins’ third of the season, resulting in a $500 fine while also putting her one step closer to the league’s higher penalty tier.

Tough afternoon for Diggins, Sky

The technical foul capped a frustrating afternoon for the veteran point guard. Diggins finished with seven points, six rebounds and five assists, but struggled to find her shooting rhythm. She made just 2 of her 11 field-goal attempts, including 2 of 5 from beyond the three-point line.

Chicago received strong offensive performances elsewhere. Azura Stevens and Kamilla Cardoso combined for 48 points and 14 rebounds, while Sydney Taylor added 14 points and Elizabeth Williams chipped in 10. It still wasn’t enough to keep pace with Las Vegas.

A’ja Wilson dominated once again, finishing with 30 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocks, while Jackie Young added 28 points and eight assists as the Aces snapped Chicago’s two-game winning streak.

Sky get another shot at Aces

Diggins and the Sky won’t have to wait long for a chance at redemption. Chicago opens a three-game road trip Friday with another meeting against Las Vegas before continuing west to face the Phoenix Mercury on July 7 and the Los Angeles Sparks on July 10.

At 6-13, the Sky remain near the bottom of the WNBA standings and will be looking to build momentum during the trip. For Diggins, avoiding another technical foul may also become part of the focus. One more would double the financial penalty for any future whistle, making every interaction with officials a bit more significant as the season moves forward.
