Six die in Abia accident as speeding car crashes into traders, motorcyclists

Six persons lost their lives on Tuesday when a speeding black Toyota car crashed into a group of traders and motorcyclists at Umuikaa junction, Isiala South local government area of Abia State, along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway.

Seven other persons also suffered various degrees of injuries, while six  motorcycles were damaged.

The car, which was coming from the Umuahia end of the road, reportedly lost control and crashed into the traders at the junction, with many of the victims being female traders.

The car also ran into  comercial motorcycle operators who came out for businesses, before ramming into a building.

The  body of the unfortunate indigenes who lost their lives in the accident were evacuated to the mortuary  after being confirmed dead,  while survivors were  rushed to hospital for urgent medical  attention.

Official cause of the disaster has not been released by relevant government agencies, but some residents of Umuikaa suggested that the accident could have been caused by over speeding or brake failure.

When DAILY POST contacted the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps , Abia State, C.C. Ngozi Ezeoma on Wednesday morning, she confirmed the accident.

“Yes, it happened at Umuikaa junction”, the Sector Commander said.
