Should Commanders’ fans be concerned about CB Trey Amos?

The Washington Commanders revealed on Saturday that three players would begin training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Those players are cornerback Trey Amos, edge rusher Dorance Armstrong and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. All three are coming off season-ending injuries last season.

So, it’s no surprise that Washington would take it slow with these players coming off significant injuries.

Is there any reason to be concerned? When the Commanders revealed who would open on the PUP list, fans were most concerned about Amos. He suffered a fractured fibula on November 9. Armstrong is recovering from a torn ACL, while Wise tore his quad.

Why are fans so worried about Amos?

The recovery timeline for a fractured fibula is generally much shorter than a torn ACL or torn quad. However, it can vary from player to player.

For example, Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins fractured his fibula in a Week 16 game against the Buffalo Bills. That was six weeks after Amos suffered his injury. It was recently revealed that Judkins will participate in training camp with no limitations.

Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards fractured his fibula in a January playoff game. He was recently placed on the active/non-football injury list to begin training camp. The reason? A minor muscle strain, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. So it doesn’t sound like Edwards’ fractured fibula was keeping him from participating in training camp.

Amos beginning camp on the PUP list has some wondering if he either had a setback or suffered another injury. Perhaps it’s neither.

Amos is a significant part of Washington’s 2026 plans and its future. It makes sense for the Commanders to exercise caution. Washington fans could be upset because there are still many questions at cornerback. Amos, Mike Sainristil and Amik Robertson are expected to start, with veterans Ahkello Witherspoon and Rasul Douglas offering depth and experience.

Head coach Dan Quinn will likely address Amos’ injury when he meets the media this week. Veterans are scheduled to report on Tuesday, with the first practice being held on Wednesday. For now, there is no reason to be concerned about Amos. If he’s still not practicing two or three weeks into camp, then it will be cause for concern.
