Shohei Ohtani Sparks Injury Scare, Dave Roberts Provides Update

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani suffered a bit of an injury scare during Tuesday, August 25th, game against the Atlanta Braves.

During the seventh inning, Ohtani was seen jogging gingerly to the dugout after grounding out. He slowed down as he jogged to the dugout and looked to be limping.

He ended up staying in the game, still legging out a triple in the top of the ninth inning, where he ended up being stranded.

Ohtani ran fine during his triple, and after the game, manager Dave Roberts quelled concerns for the time being.

“I think that when he legged that one ball at first base, that close play, it looked a little funny, but you know, watching him run to third base in the ninth inning, he looked fine,” Roberts said of Ohtani’s reaction to the seventh-inning run.

Ohtani has a history of leg injuries, espcially this year, where for months he has been nursing trying to get over a left knee issue.

He has been a full two-way player for around half of the season, taking a break since early July due to the inflammation in his knee.

Ohtani has missed only two games in the lineup because of the injury, with most of the impact coming in pitching, as it tends to aggravate when he lands on his left leg as part of his delivery.

Ohtani is set to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday or Thursday, and Roberts says that’s still part of the plan for the star.

There was still debate over whether it would be a bullpen session or a live batting practice outing, but the team has seemingly decided on a bullpen session.

If the session goes well, Ohtani is in line to start Sunday against the Detroit Tigers and pitch a few innings.

The goal is to increase his workload steadily after each start to hopefully get him to a five-inning, 80-pitch shape that offers quality length in the postseason.
