Security operatives foil attempted vandalism at TCN substation in Bauchi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said security forces have foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, preventing the vandalism of critical power infrastructure.

The incident, according to a statement issued by the company over the weekend, occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday, July 24, when security personnel on duty intercepted suspected vandals allegedly attempting to remove transmission tower members from the facility.

The suspects, according to the statement signed by the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, fled the scene after spotting the security guards.

“A subsequent inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the attempted operation,” the statement read.

According to TCN, the recovered materials and the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.

The company also confirmed that no transmission equipment was stolen or damaged during the incident, and no injuries were recorded.

TCN commended the swift response and vigilance of its security personnel, noting that their prompt action prevented the theft of critical transmission infrastructure.

The company urged host communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around electricity installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office to help safeguard the nation’s power infrastructure.
