Seat of caliphate under threat, stop Sokoto killings – MURIC to Defence minister

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has advised the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, rtd, to mobilise resources and manpower within his reach to halt incessant killings and other violent crimes in the country.

MURIC noted that the recent killing of innocent citizens, particularly in Sokoto State, is worrisome.

MURIC made the call in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, on Saturday.

Akintola, in the statement, insisted that widespread killings, kidnappings and violent crimes should be brought to an end.

He warned that Sokoto State is currently under siege because farmers cannot go to their farms, adding that villagers now seek safety outside their communities.

Akintola also revealed that city dwellers in Sokoto State also sleep with one eye open, calling on the minister to halt the killings.

‎”Killings and kidnappings around Nigeria have continued unabated. The level of insecurity has risen to an all-time high. But these terrorist activities have been concentrated on Sokoto State in particular in the past two years.

‎”These incessant attacks on Sokoto State have far-reaching effects on both the Nigerian security architecture as well as the Nigerian populace.

‎”In the first place, it underlines the weakness of our military and its failure to secure the citizenry. Secondly, killings and abductions in Sokoto or any type of attack that happens in the state symbolise aggression on the seat of the Nigerian caliphate.

‎”We therefore hold the Nigerian Army responsible for the security lapses in and around Sokoto. We expect nothing less than an iron-clad defence mechanism in that axis.”
