The Los Angeles Rams are taking a cautious approach with one of their biggest offseason acquisitions, as star defensive end Myles Garrett continues to sit out training camp with what head coach Sean McVay described as minor soreness.

Garrett missed his third consecutive practice on Sunday, but McVay made it clear that there is no panic inside the Rams’ organization. Instead, the coaching staff is focused on ensuring the veteran pass rusher is healthy for the games that matter most.

“He’s dealing with a little soreness in his lower half,” McVay said. “We’re erring on the side of being smart with him. There’s no reason for concern.”

The Rams will also keep Garrett out of Monday’s practice, which concludes the team’s current four-day practice block. After an off day on Tuesday, Los Angeles plans to re-evaluate the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year before determining when he will return to the field.

The Rams aren’t taking any chances with Myles Garrett

McVay emphasized that Garrett’s extensive NFL experience allows the Rams to be patient during training camp rather than rushing him back onto the practice field.

“We want to make sure that he feels as good as possible,” McVay explained. “Guys that have played a lot of football have a lot of opportunities to get better, but we also want to understand how to work best with him.”

Garrett’s health is a top priority for a Rams defense expected to be among the league’s best this season. His elite pass-rushing ability gives Los Angeles another game-changing defender capable of disrupting opposing offenses on every snap.

While fans are eager to see Garrett in a Rams uniform during camp, McVay’s comments suggest the absence is simply a precaution rather than a sign of a significant injury.

For now, the Rams appear content to prioritize long-term health over short-term practice reps. If Garrett responds well after Tuesday’s off day, he could be back on the field later this week as Los Angeles continues preparations for what it hopes will be a deep playoff run in 2026.
