Seahawks rookie S Bud Clark suffered a broken ankle in preseason loss

The Seattle Seahawks fell 19-16 to the Tennessee Titans, but a game wasn’t the most costly loss the team suffered on Sunday night. On the very first defensive snap of the game for Seattle, rookie safety Bud Clark was immediately injured. Clark was carted off the field in an air cast around his right leg. When the cart comes for someone, it’s obviously never good. But now we know the full extent of the injury.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced during the postgame press conference Clark suffered a broken ankle. The rookie out of TCU will be out several months, according to Macdonald. Additionally, tackle Mason Richman appears to have suffered a long-term injury as well.

Mike Macdonald tells reporters in Nashville that rookie S Bud Clark has a broken ankle and will be out for “multiple months.” He said they also think second-year OL Mason Richman suffered a major, long-term injury.

“We had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough.”

Bud Clark was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft to be the direct replacement for Coby Bryant, who departed in free agency to the Chicago Bears. Clark was set to be a featured piece in this defense as Seattle attempts to defend its hard earned Super Bowl LX crown. Sadly, we may not even get a chance to see what Clark can do until later this season, if in 2026 at all.

Losing Richman may not carry the same impact as Clark, but it is a considerable blow to Seattle’s offensive line depth. Right tackle Abe Lucas is one of the best in the league at his position, but he’s battled injuries his entire career. Without Richman in the mix, it gets awful thin at tackle behind Lucas.
