The seahawks/361" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Seattle Seahawks cap off their spring offseason activities with Mandatory Minicamp this week, running Tuesday, June 9th- Thursday, June 11th. They also have their championship ring ceremony later this week. Those will be their final times as a team before training camp begins in mid-July, with rookies reporting on Wednesday the 15th and veterans reporting the following week on the 22nd. However, a global sporting event will take over Seattle for exactly that timeframe. Here’s what to watch for along the Seahawks’ lines during the World Cup.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will begin this Thursday night in Mexico City, with the first game in Seattle kicking off Monday, June 15th. While the Seahawks will be tucked away at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in the northern part of Renton, Wash., some familiar faces will certainly pop up at the matches hosted at Lumen Field, which will be referred to as “Seattle Stadium” by the tournament.
There’s a chance some international footballers also show up to the VMAC, as Inter Milan did during the FIFA Club World Cup last year. Also just 11 minutes away and 6.8 miles across Renton in the southern part of town, the Seattle Sounders FC Performance Centre and Clubhouse will be hosting Belgium‘s Team Base Camp Training Site. Although most NFL players go away for the summer, there could be some working out there still throughout late June and early July. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them paying a visit.
Perhaps the biggest story that can come out of this is the playing surface itself, though. That deserves its own article entirely, so look for that ahead of the tournament this week as news is coming out.
