After three, hard-fought Super Regional games against a historic USC Trojans program, the UNC baseball team is going back to the College World Series.
North Carolina capped its postseason run at Boshamer Stadium with a 4-3, walk-off win against the Trojans on Sunday afternoon.
Owen Hull scored Carter French on his fourth double of the day, sending the Boshamer Stadium crowd into pure elation. Caden Glauber threw 7 1/3 innings of electric baseball, striking out 11 USC batters and furthering proving himself as ACC Freshman of the Year. Jackson Rose hurled a perfect inning, then Walker McDuffie worked around some trouble to secure his eighth victory.
Most importantly, the Diamond Heels’ latest win gets them to Omaha for a second time in three years. Head coach Scott Forbes also secured the 250th win of his UNC career, while his 2026 squad won its 50th game.

Forbes took over for the legendary Mike Fox ahead of North Carolina’s 2021 campaign, leading his new players to a 28-27 mark that ended in Texas Tech‘s Lubbock Regional. The Diamond Heels gave Forbes his first Super Regional appearance in 2022 (42-22), but two low-scoring losses vs. Arkansas quickly ended that threat. 2023 ended in the Terre Haute Regional for UNC, which compiled a 36-24 record.
North Carolina gave Forbes his first ACC Tournament Championship and College World Series appearance in 2024, totaling 48 wins in the process. UNC’s 2025 campaign ended with 46 wins and Super Regional disappointment vs. Arizona.
Hopefully for Forbes and his Diamond Heels, their highly-successful 2026 campaign isn’t anywhere close to over. North Carolina continues gameplay on Friday vs. Ole Miss in both teams’ CWS opener.
