Schottenheimer’s Primetime Record Is A Disaster

· · 2 min read

The lights are way too bright for this group right now. It is hard to look at the recent losses and not see a massive problem with how the Dallas Cowboys handle the big stage. The coaching under Brian Schottenheimer has been nothing short of a nightmare when the cameras are rolling.

The numbers are ugly. According to Blogging The Boys, the Cowboys are 1-7-1 in primetime games specifically under Brian Schottenheimer. That is one win in nine tries. It is a complete collapse.

The struggle to find balance

It isn’t just about the time of day, though. The actual play-calling is broken. In the loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Oct. 18, the run game vanished. Per the Dallas News, the Dallas running attack hit season lows with only 57 yards and 2.2 yards per carry.

Schottenheimer leaned way too hard on the air attack. During that Packers game, the coach called a huge number of pass plays. Dak Prescott threw 54 times. Meanwhile, running backs Tyler Goodson and Javonte Williams only had 13 carries combined. You cannot win like that.

Javonte Williams knows the team needs to change. “I know how good of a team we are and we’re going to get back on track. We just got to communicate and get balanced,” Williams said, per the Dallas News.

No plan to change roles

Some people think Schottenheimer should step back from calling plays. He doesn’t agree. Yahoo Sports reported that Schottenheimer told 105.3 The Fan “No, absolutely not” when asked if he would give up those duties.

He claims he is “an elite play-caller in this league,” but the results don’t match the talk. The offense scored 30.5 points per game during the first four weeks. Now, they have only put up 29 points total over the last two weeks. They are also 32nd in the league in rushing attempts, according to Yahoo Sports.

The team has to fix the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer said, “The second thing we have to improve is the line of scrimmage and the run game on offense, that’s a problem that we’re working very hard to solve and fix,” per Yahoo Sports. If he can’t fix it, Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles is going to be another long night for Dallas fans.
