Save our future — Taraba varsity final-year students beg Kefas to avert strike

Final-year students of Taraba State University, TSU, Jalingo, have appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to urgently intervene in the lingering issues between the state government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, TSU chapter, to prevent an indefinite strike.

The students made the appeal in an open letter dated September 22, 2026, addressed to the Governor and signed by “Concerned Final Year Students” of the university.

The students said they were scheduled to commence their final examinations on September 29, 2026, but expressed concern over reports that the university’s ASUU chapter may embark on an indefinite strike over unresolved demands.

According to them, the proposed industrial action, if allowed to commence at the time of their examinations, could disrupt the academic calendar and delay their graduation.

They also expressed concern that a prolonged strike could increase students’ accommodation and other educational expenses, while subjecting them to additional psychological and financial pressures.

The students, therefore, urged the state government to immediately engage the leadership of ASUU with a view to resolving the issues responsible for the threatened strike.

They further called on the government to address what they described as the union’s legitimate demands and provide assurances to students and parents that the final examinations would proceed as scheduled.

The students commended Kefas for his administration’s education policies, including the free education initiative, describing him as a governor committed to the welfare of students.

“We want to write our final exams and graduate in peace. Please save our academic future,” the students appealed.

Copies of the letter were observed to have as well been addressed to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, the Chairman of ASUU, TSU chapter, and the Department of State Services (DSS) in Taraba State.
