Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a personal cash reward of N20 million each for the two overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Sanwo-Olu made the announcement on Wednesday during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies held at the university’s main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, who clinched the top position for the 2025/2026 session.
Olawale, a graduate of Project Management Technology, finished with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class Honours. Oluolamide, who studied Aerospace Engineering, recorded an impressive 4.97 CGPA, also graduating with First Class Honours.
The governor stated that the financial reward was his personal contribution to celebrate and encourage outstanding academic performance among young Nigerians.
Under the arrangement, each of the two graduates is expected to receive N20 million.
The latest gesture comes shortly after Oluolamide received another N10 million cash award from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme after emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The combined convocation ceremonies are expected to produce more than 20,000 graduates from the two academic sessions, including 494 students who attained First Class honours.
Oluolamide had earlier celebrated his academic feat after the university approved his 4.97/5.00 CGPA, while Olawale attributed his success to divine grace and expressed optimism about making greater impact beyond the university.
The governor’s latest intervention further underscores the importance of recognising academic excellence and encouraging young people to pursue outstanding performance in their chosen fields.
