Sandy Valley High School hires Drew Meister as athletic director

MAGNOLIA — Drew Meister has been hired as Sandy Valley High School’s new athletic director and assistant principal.

Meister brings 25 years of experience in education, coaching and school leadership to Sandy Valley. He most recently served as program coordinator for the Leopard Blended Digital Academy at Louisville City Schools.

Meister served as athletic director at Saint Francis High School in Georgia and assistant athletic director at Newark Catholic. He spent nearly a decade at the collegiate level as an assistant basketball coach and sports information director. As a high school basketball coach from 2006-26, he earned Associated Press Division IV state coach of the year honors twice and led teams to regional and state runner-up finishes.

“I am excited to join the Sandy Valley family,” Meister said in a statement. “My goal is to be a visible and approachable support to students, staff and families while building on the strong traditions already in place. I look forward to working with our coaches, teachers and community to help students reach their full potential.

“I take the greatest pride in mentoring student-athletes and coaches to help them reach the next level of competition and leadership. Athletics provide opportunities to teach responsibility, perseverance and teamwork, which are all lessons that extend far beyond the game, and I am looking forward to doing this at Sandy Valley.”

Meister holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Muskingum University and a bachelor’s in English from LaGrange College.
